Vaupell joins TPRC as new Tier 1 member

Vaupell | SB Aero will collaborate with TPRC to accelerate technological developments for new applications of thermoplastic composites in aerospace, automotive and other markets. Vaupell|AS Aero, a designer and a manufacturer of custom, high performance engineered plastics and composite components, has joined the Thermoplastic Composites Research Center (TPRC) as a Tier 1 member.

Vaupell | SB Aero, a business unit of Sumitomo Bakelite (SB), will collaborate with TPRC, its industrial members and leading universities to accelerate scientific and technological developments for new applications of thermoplastic composites in aerospace, automotive and other value chains.

“Thermoplastic composite technology, in materials as well as parts, is instrumental to the future success of Vaupell | SB Aero. It is exciting to be part of this team, this diverse group, united in their commitment to thermoplastic composites,” commented Henny van Dijk, Managing Executive Officer of Vaupell | SB Aero.

Vaupell | SB Aero

Vaupell | SB Aero designs, engineers, and produces custom, high performance engineered plastics and composite components and assemblies for demanding applications. The company is a market leader in plastic components and assemblies for aircraft interiors and structures while also serving the broader aerospace, and defence markets.

In addition to parts, Vaupell | SB Aero has a wide range of aerospace focused materials and intermediates, such as composite panels, thermoformable thermoplastic sheet, decorative film and long fibre mouldable thermoplastic composite materials.

TPRC

The Thermoplastic Composites Research Center (TPRC) is a consortium of industrial and academic members active in the thermoplastic composites industry. The organisation believes in thermoplastic composites as the material for lightweight manufacturing in large volumes. Its primary aim is to enable a more widespread use of thermoplastic composites by eliminating technological barriers.

For this purpose, the consortium defines and executes a research roadmap aimed at generating the fundamental knowledge required to optimize existing and new manufacturing processes in terms of quality and productivity. The developed knowledge is put to use through process design tools, which allow design for manufacturing for thermoplastic composites, taking into account the material and processing capabilities and limitations.
