Solvay launches Evolite F1050

Typical oil and gas applications of Evolite F1050 include offshore hybrid flexible pipes and thermoplastic composite pipes (TCPs). © SolvaySolvay launches Evolite F1050, a high-performance thermoplastic composite with continuous carbon fibre reinforcement for demanding offshore oil and gas applications, at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), which takes place from 30 April to 3 May in Houston, TX.

Evolite F1050 is a unidirectional tape combining the recognised chemical and temperature resistance of Solef PVDF with the inherent high strength performance of carbon fibre. It is said to offer the performance and ease of processing required by the oil and gas industry, as demonstrated by combination of mechanical and chemical resistance, high temperature applications, compatibility with ATL processes, and customised fibre/matrix translation for maximum performance, the company reports.

According to the manufacturer, thermoplastic composites are a key element of Solvay’s growth strategy, leveraging the Group’s vertical integration in specialty polymers and advanced carbon fibre composites technology and expertise.

“Thanks to its broad portfolio and deep technical knowledge, Solvay is uniquely positioned to offer advanced thermoplastic composites to meet the most demanding industry challenges. Evolite F1050 is the first launch in a portfolio of products that will enable lower total installed cost solutions for oil and gas operators through the weight reduction it offers,” the company explains.

Solvay’s new Global Business Unit Composite Materials is a provider of technologically advanced lightweighting material solutions for aerospace, automotive and other demanding industries. Composite Materials has the most extensive product portfolio, including prepregs, resin systems, adhesives and surfacing films, carbon fibre, textiles, tooling and vacuum bagging consumables. Solvay Composite Materials combines the former Cytec Aerospace Materials and Industrial Materials businesses.
