Solvay has signed a long-term agreement with Safran for the supply of high-temperature composites and adhesives. Safran will use these advanced materials on several of their critical engine components.

This new contract, in addition to the supply agreement for the LEAP Engine signed in July 2018, further extends and reinforces Solvay and Safran collaboration on demanding applications. As the technology leader for high temperature capable materials, Solvay says it is committed to its significant position as supplier of choice for engine applications.

For its LEAP Engine contract, Solvay has agreed to supply Safran with a package of composite material technologies to manufacture the engine’s critical structural components, including fan blades, fan case, acoustic panel and trench filler. Part of these materials will be made in and supplied from Östringen, Germany, where Solvay opened a state-of-the-art resin facility in 2016 largely dedicated to the LEAP programme.

Solvay’s new Global Business Unit Composite Materials is a provider of technologically advanced lightweighting material solutions that enable its customers in the aerospace, automotive and other demanding industries to design, develop and efficiently manufacture high-quality, high-performance and complex composite structures.

Composite Materials has an extensive product portfolio, including prepregs, resin systems, adhesives and surfacing films, carbon fibre, textiles, tooling and vacuum bagging consumables, thanks to its leadership in advanced materials science, chemistry and application engineering. Solvay Composite Materials combines the former Cytec Aerospace Materials and Industrial Materials businesses.
