Sigmatex apprentice named Apprentice of the Year

Industry trade association Composites UK has announced Tom Rockwood as Apprentice of the Year at its annual awards dinner last week. The awards ceremony provides a platform to recognise all the achievements within the composites sector.

Tom, who has been employed at Sigmatex for just over a year, is part way through an HND in Mechanical engineering and works within the Maintenance Team supporting the mechanical and electrical teams. Since joining the business, he has become an integral part of the team and has worked on some high-level projects within our Runcorn site, the company reports.

“Tom is Sigmatex’s first Higher Level Apprentice and we’re very proud of his achievements to date. Tom’s enthusiasm, maturity, commitment and overall hard work is a credit to our business. Tom has a wonderful potential and is an inspiration to both the young and old within our team at Sigmatex and we’re really glad that he has been recognised by Composites UK for his achievements,” commented Helen Symonds, HR Manager at Sigmatex.

Sigmatex was also announced as the winner of the Sustainability award for its efforts in developing a Recycled Carbon Fibre product, which utilises its production waste stream.

Sigmatex develops and manufactures carbon fibre textiles for composite material applications. From global locations, Sigmatex supplies carbon fibre textiles, including 3D, spread tow, innegra, recycled, unidirectional, multiaxial, and 2D, across a broad spread of industries ranging from the high volume automotive manufacturers to performance leisure brands and major aerospace companies.
