NCC recruits new Associate Member, GOM

GOM Inspect as standard 3D software is installed on hundreds of PCs in the plants of the BMW Group worldwide. The National Composites Centre (NCC) has welcomed GOM, a developer of software, machines and systems for industrial and automated 3D coordinate measuring technology and 3D testing, as the latest Associate Member.

“We are extremely pleased to become Associate Members of the NCC, sharing our latest ATOS TripleScan system with our fellow NCC Members. This system offers fantastic accuracy and process safety, which is critical in high end aerospace and automotive applications,” commented Steve Waldron, Key Account Manager at GOM.

“The NCC will also benefit with access to GOM Inspect software, the software which will allow the skilled engineers and technicians at the NCC to evaluate and share scan data. We see Research and Development centres like the NCC as critical in supporting the development of our new products and production methods. We are proud to see the NCC utilise and share our technology across the composites industry.”

Measuring technology

GOM has been developing measuring technology in Braunschweig, Germany, since 1990 and has more than 100 engineers, mathematicians and scientists in research and development. GOM’s measuring systems are now established in many high end applications, both in OEM’s and the associated supply chain.

As components and production methods are becoming more and more complex, GOM systems aim to provide faster and improved methods of dimensional validation, simulation verification and reverse engineering.

NCC membership

The NCC currently has over 40 Members from a wide variety of sectors including, aerospace, automotive, renewables, oil and gas, transport and security and defence. GOM joins the Associate membership community alongside 18 other engineering industry support providers.

The NCC Associate membership offers wide-ranging services to suit the varied needs of Members and the composites industry, ranging from equipment and software providers to engineering trade magazines.

As an Associate Member, companies like GOM, provide equipment, materials, software or hardware to the centre in return for a range of membership benefits. These include access to the state-of-the-art facilities for private venture work, fantastic networking and collaboration opportunities with industry facilitated through the NCC, and a great overview of the UK composites activity in one location across sectors.

Advancing capabilities

“GOM is a fantastic addition to our Associate membership and we are very excited to see how this new partnership will develop,” said Alison Starr, Executive Director of Strategy and Business Development at the NCC.

“Their services will greatly enhance our digital manufacturing and automation capability allowing us to continue advancing our 3D scanning, measuring and testing ability. GOM’s latest ATOS TripleScan system will allow us to offer three-dimensional measurement data and analysis for a multitude of industrial components.”
