Stuttgart appearance for the Bioconcept-Car

The latest Four Motors Bioconcept-Car. © Four MotorsThe fourth-generation version of the Bioconcept-Car, a Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport developed by Four Motors, of Reutlingen, Germany, will be on display at Composites Europe in Stuttgart from September 19-21.

The car, which is powered by oil reprocessed using a patented high-tech process bringing it to a new level of high performance, will also serve as a flagship development for the bio-based alternatives for automotive components that will be the focus of the second bio!CAR conference, being held alongside the show on September 20th and 21st.

Bioconcept-Car 4 has taken part in races at Germany’s Nürburgring circuit this year and is equipped with natural fibre composite doors developed in a project between Four Motors and IfBB (the Institute for Bioplastics and Biocomposites), Fraunhofer WKI and Porsche. The doors are a third lighter than series production doors based on aluminium.

The scope of materials to be covered by cross-industry experts at bio!CAR 2017 includes conventional plastics filled or reinforced with sophisticated natural-fibre based nonwovens and woven fabrics, and so-called biobased, ‘drop-in’ plastics, such as polyamides based on castor oil in addition to new bioplastics such as PLA and isosorbide-based polycarbonate, in addition thermoset resins from renewable resources and biobased alternatives for rubber and elastomers.
