JEC Group puts entrepreneurship on the front scene

The programme gives visibility to the innovation of composite start-ups around the world towards international investors and the entire value chain. JEC Group launches Startup Booster, a programme designed to support and accompany innovations and entrepreneurship in composites used in fields like aeronautics, automotive, construction, medical, design, sports and leisure, a dynamic and growing market that is expected to reach US$ 90 billion in value by 2020.

In a competitive world, composite materials play an important role by providing many elements of differentiation, because they integrate many functions impacting significantly and positively the environment, the intrinsic quality of the products and the industrial costs.

The Startup Booster programme is at the centre of JEC Group's strategy for innovation and visibility towards investors. “JEC Group promotes the use of composites to all manufacturers and end-users. With this programme, we spot and support composites innovation,” explained Anne-Manuèle Hébert, Director of JEC World and JEC Group's Shows in Europe.

“In our sectors, it is the only programme that offers this opportunity to create links between start-ups and major players in the industry. We are pleased to have Airbus and Daimler as main partners for this first edition.”

Accompanying startups worldwide

The programme gives visibility to the innovation of composite start-ups around the world towards international investors and the entire value chain. Many start-ups have applied for this first edition of JEC World’s “start-up booster” programme. Only ten of them have been selected and will have the opportunity to present their innovation to the jury on 14 March 2017.

“We are delighted to be part of the biggest event in the composites calendar and are looking forward to fostering the next generation of technologies to enable us to continue to grow our manufacturing capability,” commented Turlough MacMahon, Partnerships Manager of the Manufacturing Technologies team at Airbus.

“In Startup Booster, we see a very good opportunity to get in contact with a broad network of innovative start-ups, exchange know-how and support new, fresh ideas in the area of composites,” said Dr Karl-Heinz Fueller, manager material innovations and BIW concept development at Daimler AG. “For us, the composite market is an important market for future developments, for example, with regards to electric vehicles. These vehicles have extremely lightweight requirements and there’s still a great potential for lightweight innovations with composites, e.g. regarding crash-safe battery integration.”

Exhibiting at JEC World

JEC World will host the ten start-ups in competition on a dedicated area, the Startup Booster Village, at the entrance of the Hall 6, providing a unique opportunity for these ten startup companies to be visible to the 1,300 exhibitors and 37,000 visitors.

Three start-ups will then win the Startup Booster 2017 prize, a financial prize and a package worth EUR 15,000, including a participation in JEC World 2018.
