The National Composites Centre (NCC) has announced that Alan Banks, Innovation Supervisor – Lightweight Technology Engineering at Ford Motor Company, is the final keynote speaker for Composites Overmoulding 2019, taking place on 6 November 2019 at the NCC in Bristol.
Mr Banks will join Graeme Herlihy, President, Western Europe, of Engel Austria, and James Myers, Head of R&D for Aerospace and Composite Applications at Victrex, offering attendees a broad cross-section of views and technology updates from across UK industries.
“Alan will provide vital insight into how composites overmoulding can help solve some of the challenges facing automotive manufacturers,” commented Sean Cooper, Deputy Chief Engineer at the NCC.
“I am delighted to be part of the Composites Overmoulding conference at the NCC,” said Mr Banks. “The requirement for light-weighting in the automotive sector is going to become increasingly important in the coming years and it is unlikely that, in the short term, pure composite materials will be an affordable solution in this arena. Hybrid solutions will be a valuable commodity with overmoulding technology the key to affordable weight saving. I am pleased to be given the opportunity to provide perspective on this technology from a major OEM.”
The one-day conference, the first in the new NCC Discover series, aims to connect research and industry, allowing them to discuss the key challenges they currently face, and the new technology innovations that may assist with solving those challenges.
Experts on overmoulding from the NCC will present on their recent developments with overmoulding process simulation, part design and instrumented tooling, with the conference also featuring manufacturing demonstrations of the NCC’s Engel Duo 1700T organomelt research cell and guided collaborative workshop sessions.
