New partnership for CoreLite materials in Europe

CoreLite PVC foams and CoreLite Board are commonly used in boat building.CoreLite, a US core materials specialist, and Biesterfeld have entered into a new partnership, in which Biesterfeld will be distributing CoreLite products in Germany, the UK and the Baltic states. Biesterfeld is now able to offer the latest Balsa, PVC foam, PVC foam boards and PET foam core materials to high performance industries. Biesterfeld's product portfolio now includes Balsasud Core, CoreLite PET, CoreLite PVC foams, as well as CoreLite Board.

“We are delighted to be able to extend our composite product portfolio thanks to this new cooperative venture,” said Dr Johannes Martin, Sales Manager Performance Products, Biesterfeld Spezialchemie.

“Balsasud adds an entirely new type of product to our portfolio: Balsasud's innovative PC11 Pro Coating increases the balsa core’s ability to bond to laminates and significantly reduces the amount of resin absorbed by up to 76% compared to uncoated raw balsa wood. These properties mean we can now develop extremely strong, rigid components that are not only lighter in weight, but also lower cost to produce.”

Balsasud Core is a fine balsa wood core material that has excellent fatigue resistance and exceptional compression and shear strength, according to the manufacturer. In boat building, this product is used in the hull, interior and decks. It is also used in the construction of rotor wind blades, as well as transportation applications.

CoreLite PVC foams are closed-cell foams that are suitable for use in lightweight composite parts, not only due to their tensile and flexural strength, but also because of their moisture-resistance. The material is mainly used in boat building, wind blade construction and transportation applications.

CoreLite Board is a high-density foam board with high physical properties. It is characterised by its screw retention and resistance to moisture; it will not rot, mould or mildew, the company reports. It is commonly used in boat building, transportation and industrial applications.

“Biesterfeld will be a strong and reliable partner for us. Thanks to their proven experience with core materials, Biesterfeld's experts can offer a comprehensive range of services and technical, application-specific advice. These are the very best preconditions for positioning our products effectively and successfully in the market,” commented Federico Frigeri, Managing Director for Europe at CoreLite.
