Multi-density foam core from 100% recycled PET

Armacell, a leader in innovative and environmentally friendly structural PET foam cores for the composites industry, will present its innovative product ArmaFORM PET MultiCore (MC) at the Composites Europe 2017 trade fair that takes place in Stuttgart next week.

Armacell’s new product solution is said to offer a unique combination of properties, including improved compression strength and point load static as well as an increased impact performance and point load dynamic. The use of higher density layers allows for superior screw retention without additional reinforcement – an increase of up to 25-30%, according to the manufacturer.

100% recyclability

Thanks to the high density upper core layer, ArmaFORM PET MC is said to help to reduce the amount of resin intake. The lower density core acts as a shock absorber, reducing the stress locally applied to the panel and leading to improved strain failure.

As the well-established ArmaFORM range, the PET MC grade is made of 100% post-consumer PET and is also recyclable at the end of its service life. The different layers are bonded by means of a thermo-welding process without the use of adhesive, thus maintaining the product’s 100% recyclability.

Replacing multi-ply panels

“Generally, ArmaFORM PET MC grade is designed to replace traditional Plywood-XPS and other multi-ply panels, used in a variety of applications such as load-bearing floor panels in lightweight trucks and trailers, side wall insulation panels in refrigerated trucks, or the body structure in caravans and motorhomes,” the company explains.

As the inventor of flexible foam for equipment insulation and a leading provider of engineered foams, Armacell develops innovative and safe thermal, acoustic and mechanical solutions. With 3,000 employees and 25 production plants in 16 countries, the company operates two main businesses. The Advanced Insulation business focuses on insulation materials for technical equipment. The Engineered Foams business develops high-performance foams that are used in high-tech and lightweight applications.
