Composite-Sandwich Conference 2020

© Composite Sandwich Conference.Next year, the Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems (IMWS) and ThermHex Waben GmbH will host the Composite-Sandwich Conference in Halle (Saale), Germany. Besides the presentations and the opportunity to network, new fields of application of sandwich materials will be highlighted and discussed.

The city of Halle and the region are particularly well suited as locations especially for this event: Engineer Hugo Junkers had already worked on sandwich structures with honeycomb cores in Dessau in 1915, and the Hallesche Papierwarenfabrik Heilbrun & Pinner made major contributions to the development of honeycomb cores with the invention of the expanded honeycomb for decorative applications (1901).

Sandwich construction based on fiber-reinforced plastics enables highly efficient lightweight structures and thus already makes an enormous contribution to resource conservation in a large number of applications. While the topic of lightweight construction is widely discussed in many congresses and conferences, there are only a few conferences worldwide focusing on sandwich construction and sandwich core materials. Fraunhofer IMWS and ThermHex Waben GmbH are organizing the Composite- Sandwich Conference in Halle (Saale) to exchange knowledge on current trends in material and technology development in the field of composite sandwich construction.

The event is supported by the SKZ Kunststoff-Zentrum Halle, the Kunststoff-Zentrum Leipzig and the Composites United network. On the first day of the conference, participants can visit the production site of ThermHex Waben GmbH as well as the Fraunhofer pilot plant centre for polymer synthesis and processing PAZ. In the evening, the official opening event will be held with first lectures, a get-together and a dinner at the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. The second day will feature presentations by top speakers in sandwich structures.
