Fibre Reinforced Polymer Bridges – Northern Guidance Launch Event
Composites UK is organising its second composites showcase of the year, this time covering the topic of fibre reinforced polymer composites (FRPs) in renewable energy. This sector is a new addition to the showcase series and takes place at Glasgow Caledonian University on 19 July 2018.
As mentioned in the 2016 UK Composites Strategy, the UK is seeking to generate 15% of its power requirements from renewable sources by 2020 and thus the sector requires continued support, particularly at the design stage, to ensure all aspects of production – from offshore wind blades to towers and nacelles – are not over looked.
“As stated in the 2016 Composites Industry Strategy, there will be accelerated organic growth in the established composites-using sectors like Renewables, predicting a £ 50million sector increase by 2020, and a further £ 230million increase by 2030,” said Claire Whysall, Communications Manager at Composites UK. “It is important that we are supporting this growth through networking and new partnerships.”
