AZL partner institutes present lightweight processes and equipment

On 25 April, the nine partner institutes of the AZL open the doors of their machinery halls and research labs to provide an extensive and on-site insight into the research and development capacities in the field of lightweight production and composites at the RWTH Aachen Campus.

As a special highlight of this year, the new AZL building including its machinery hall with large-scale equipment are visited for the first time.

AZL Open Day

Companies of the entire lightweight value chain, as well as newcomers to the lightweight industry, are invited to join the AZL Open Day and take part in nine guided tours to the lightweight institutes.

On an area of around 2.5 km², a total of 16 new research clusters are realized at RWTH Aachen Campus, in close proximity to the already existing large-scale research institutes and facilities. Institutes with lightweight focus are visited during the AZL Open Day. © Campus GmbH/ Steindl

Participants will have the possibility to be updated on the latest lightweight production technologies and equipment in the field of textiles (ITA), plastics and composite materials (IKV), production technology (WZL, IPT, ILT, and ISF), quality assurance and production-integrated measurement technology (WZL), lightweight design (SLA), automotive production (IKA), as well as multi-material systems and process integration (AZL). Moreover, participants will have time to network with other player of the lightweight industry, as well as research engineers of AZL’s Partner Institutes, organisers report.

With 16 new research clusters, one of the largest research environments in Europe is being created in Aachen on an area of 2.5 km2. Earlier this year, the AZL opened its offices and machinery hall in one of the new cluster buildings, the Production Engineering Cluster. Additionally to its large-scale equipment for composite pilot production, AZL will provide exclusive offices and co-working spaces for partner companies.

RWTH Aachen University

RWTH Aachen University is one of the leading universities in the field of production technology. The Aachen Center for integrative Lightweight Production (AZL) of RWTH Aachen consolidates the lightweight expertise of eight partner institutes with 750 scientists on the RWTH Aachen Campus. The AZL builds an international partner network between these institutes and more than 70 international companies involved in lightweight production.

The AZL of RWTH Aachen University addresses the transformation of lightweight design in mass production with basic research and development of lightweight products, materials, production processes and systems with access to the latest full-scale machines and automation systems. As a service provider partnering with companies in the field of lightweight production technology, AZL Aachen GmbH provides industrial services in the areas of engineering, consultancy and project management, networking and business development.

With the AZL Partnership, the AZL Aachen GmbH aims to enable the close cooperation between the lightweight industry and the research institutes of RWTH Aachen Campus along the whole value chain. The AZL Partner Network consists of more than 80 industrial partners representing the entire lightweight production value chain.
