Aston Martin and TenCate announce technical partnership

TenCate Advanced Composites, part of the Toray Group and a leading developer and manufacturer of advanced composite materials, and Aston Martin have announced their technical partnership for the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar programme.

TenCate is the composite technology partner of the Aston Martin Valkyrie programme, supplying advanced composite materials for a broad range of end-use applications throughout the car, including structural, cosmetic and high-temperature components. This technical partnership is the first advanced composite material partnership for Aston Martin.

TenCate’s Expert Services team has worked closely with Aston Martin, developing custom material forms where needed to best meet the unique application demands. The Aston Martin Valkyrie is built around a lightweight carbon fibre structure and boasts “truly radical aerodynamics for unprecedented levels of downforce in a road-legal car”, according to the company.

“The extraordinary targets we have set ourselves for the Aston Martin Valkyrie require us to select partners with exceptional technical capabilities and products. In TenCate Advanced Composites we have found a partner with the skillset and the mindset to join us in meeting the challenges of developing and producing what will undoubtedly be the defining hypercar of its generation,” said David King Vice President and Chief Special Operations Officer at Aston Martin.

To support the programme, TenCate will supply a full material solution with the provision of surfacing films, film adhesives, honeycomb core and its heritage TenCate AmberTool composite tooling prepregs. Materials will be supplied from TenCate’s European Centre of Excellence for thermoset systems, Langley Mill, UK.

“We’re thrilled to have been selected as the technology partner to work with Aston Martin on what is a truly remarkable programme,” commented Scott Unger, CTO at TenCate Advanced Composites. “TenCate has very strong technical positions in Formula 1 motorsport and high-performance automotive markets, which coupled with our technical support, responsiveness and expertise make us the ideal partner of choice for the Aston Martin Valkyrie programme.”
