New UK contract for Gurit

Gurit, the Zurich-headquartered developer and manufacturer of advanced composite materials and technologies, has been selected as the supplier for carbon fibre-based automotive body panels by a British premium automotive OEM.

The total value of the four-year contract is around CHF 15 million, with supply scheduled to start in June 2018.

Prototyping and development work will be carried out at Gurit’s technology centre in the UK and volume production of the car parts will be done at the company’s new Hungarian plant using proprietary press technology.

At the start of this year, Gurit announced that its SC 110 and SC 160 visual carbon prepregs had been qualified by two further major car manufacturers.

Both products passed the respective environmental OEM tests successfully showing excellent product properties and surface quality. These materials are now being used by Tier 1 suppliers for exterior and interior visual carbon programmes.

Gurit`s visual carbon prepregs are characterized by clarity, faster manufacturing times and a patented resin system which allows for the production of white spot-free parts. This enables increased production output as well as a major reduction in scrapped parts when compared to current materials on the market. In addition, SC 160 allows for paint processes to be carried out at elevated temperatures.
