Gurit strengthens PET structural foam range

Gurit, the Swiss-headquartered developer and manufacturer of advanced composites has secured a licence for ArmaFORM PET GR technology developed by Armacell, the flexible foam manufacturer headquartered in Luxembourg.

ArmaFORM PET GR foam core technology enables extruded PET foam to be produced from 100% recycled (post-consumer) PET materials. The patented technology is already widely employed and allows manufacturers to increase their use of sustainable advanced materials across applications.

In December last year, Gurit acquired BASF’s PET structural foam business to add a sizeable European-based PET production capacity to the company’s existing PET operations in China. The Kerdyn product brand has reinforced Gurit’s PET product offering to the wind, marine, transport and construction industry and the acquisition provided significant extrusion process technology and product innovation know-how.

Located in Volpiano, Italy, the BASF PET business generated a low single digit million Swiss Francs turnover in 2016.

“The combination of the PET capacity and technology that we have acquired in Volpiano, Italy, paired with our existing production and the new licensing contract for the Armacell foam technology represents a major step forward in our offering to our global customer base,” said Rudolf Hadorn, CEO of Gurit.
