The Munich-based company Cevotec will officially launch a new industrial solution for automated production of complex carbon composites in high volumes at the JEC World composites show, which will be held from 14-16 March in Paris, France.
The novel production system SAMBA system is based on the Fiber Patch Placement (FPP) technology which enables the fully automated production of complex 3D composite geometries – in a continuous process from virtual design to the fibre preform.
The great interest in the diverse possibilities offered by FPP technology for space, aeronautic, automotive, medical technology and the sporting goods sector was demonstrated by visitors at Composites Europe, where the system was presented in a virtual reality preview last year.
ARTIST STUDIO, Cevotec’s easy-to-use CAD-CAM software, is said to significantly shorten the production preparation and enable the fast creation of new production data in the case of laminate changes.
ARTIST STUDIO consists of two modules: PATCH ARTIST creates patch-based high-performance laminates with the help of powerful, proprietary algorithms, whilst MOTION ARTIST is using the laminate architecture to perform an automatic and collision-free offline programming of SAMBA’s two interacting robots.
The high-tech fibre preforming system SAMBA has been designed to allow a precise orientation of each patch to achieve perfect fibre architecture in complex load conditions for increased strength and stiffness. In addition, SAMBA significantly reduces scrap and eliminates additional forming processes through 3D net-shape preforming, the company reports.
Cevotec develops and sells intelligent systems for the additive and automated production of complex carbon composites. SAMBA is Cevotec’s high-tech production system for dry fibre preforming, especially for complex 3D shapes and load-path-oriented reinforcements.
With ARTIST STUDIO, the company provides the matching CAD-CAM software platform, and offers additional development services for prototypes and series products. Cevotec is a spin-off from Technische Universität München and partners with the European Space Agency ESA, Airbus Group and Baumann Automation.
